Hey everyone!

How are you all feeling? Is anyone applying for any courses with an early deadline (October 15th)? It’s a week to go, so just wanted to check in and see how you're feeling 😄

If you need some help with your personal statement, we have a whole forum dedicated to your questions (just don't post any part of your statement!), and some example statements in our PS library.

What are your main questions?

If you're not applying early, have you started looking around at booking any open days yet? If so, how are they going? Have you visited Strathclyde yet?

Good luck everyone :woo:

Hi guys! I just submitted my application for Journalism, Media and Communications and Law, which I'm pretty sure will be my firm choice if I receive an offer!

Hi!
1) What A Levels are you doing (or other eligible qualifications)? I'm in my 4th year at Dundee doing Business Management
2) What course at Strathclyde do you have your eyes on? And why? I'm applying for PGDE Primary, always wanted to go into teaching and very passionate about helping young learners to thrive.
3) What grades did you get/are you predicted to get at GCSE and Sixth Form? I've got Highers, Nat 5s and a Nat 4, as well as an HNC and HND, before starting my undergrad degree.
4) Why Strathclyde specifically? I know Strathclyde has a very good Education faculty and I think it was one of the good options for placements and teaching too. It's location in the middle of Glasgow was also a big pull factor.
5) Will you be attending any Open Days? I haven't been able to go to open days yet as I live in Eastern Perthshire, so it isn't the easiest to get down and it depends on work. I think I was on holiday on the last open day! If an open day comes up I would be interested, however, as a PGDE student and a non-drinker, I would be more interested in that accommodation and the facilities than the drinking and nightlife on offer, and open days are usually full of school leavers about to start their undergrads (no disrespect, I promise!).
6) How are you feeling about starting University? Really excited to start PGDE (hopefully) as I am passionate about teaching and making a difference.
7) Other unis you're interested in? Aberdeen (got an interview next week!), Dundee, UHI in Perth and Glasgow

Does anyone know when Strathclyde start to look at UCAS applications? I emailed as I had received acknowledgement from all of my choices except Strath, and they said they hadn't received the applications from UCAS yet?

Hi Anon! Good luck with your application - so pleased to hear you're interested in doing your PGDE with us!

I believe we're starting transferring applications over from UCAS to our system over the next few weeks. The PGDE Primary course is in very high demand so admissions staff may wait to start making their decisions and processing applications until after the deadline in January. Don't worry if you don't hear back soon as this is completely normal - normally we aim to have most of our decisions made by March/April time.

Also on your point for open days - I just wanted to flag that we're running our Postgraduate Open Day next Wednesday (5th November) which is much more tailored to our prospective PG applicants which might be a better vibe for you if you're free, as there's a PGDE session and we'll have Education and PGDE stands 🙂 Will link the booking form and event info here!

Good luck with your application! Let me know if you've any questions 😀

1) I’m currently doing AH Biology & Chemistry and Higher Psychology & Physics
2) Bsc Psychology & Counselling. I’m really interested in psychology and being a clinical psychologist but I like the idea of having another option (counselling) if I decide clinical psychology isn’t for me
3) I got AABB in S5 an this year I’m predicted ABBB
4) Strathclyde really just seems like it’s the perfect fit for me and what I’m looking for, plus I was really impressed by their open day back in October
5) I went to one and it really helped me decide that Strath was for me
6) I’m beyond excited to start uni because I can finally be around people who actually care about school and are just as passionate about psychology as me
7) I’m interested in UoG, Glasgow Caledonian, Stirling and Edinburgh

I’m looking forward to seeing what other people are wanting to study and I am anxiously waiting for an offer (fingers crossed) in the new year
