UCAS form is in, and now, to avoid spending three months hammering "refresh", for non-med / edu degrees is it most likely that we will hear back only after Xmas?

hello, I am a parent BTW. Was in Aberdeen with my daughter and spoke to admissions and the academic selectors for her choices. They do rolling admissions so likely hear back before Christmas. She applied on on the 9th September.

daughter applied on 9th and her ucas hub said 'awaiting decisions' it then changed to 'universities are considering your application' (as of yesterday).. seems like ucas don't send them straight away. She had an offer through last night....

Oh congrats to her!
Hey everyone!

How are you all feeling? Is anyone applying for any courses with an early deadline (October 15th) here? It’s a week to go, so just wanted to check in and see how you're feeling 😄

If you need some help with your personal statement, we have a whole forum dedicated to your questions (just don't post any part of your statement!), and some example statements in our PS library.

What are your main questions?

If you're not applying early, have you started looking around at booking any open days yet? If so, how are they going? Have you visited Aberdeen yet?

Good luck everyone :woo:

Still not a whisper from Aberdeen by the way. I hope UCAS have actually sent it to them as the page still says

Your application has been sent to UCAS
Waiting for decisions on your choices.
What happens next?
UCAS is processing your application. Once this is complete it will be sent to the universities and colleges you applied to for their consideration

But some of the universities have sent an acknowledgement. Just not the one I care about, which is Aberdeen!
😢

my daughter is the same. She only has one acknowledgment and one unconditional. applied on 9th. she has a successful appeal so i had to contact unis separately while ucas did the update to her application. I since found out that batches are sent to Unis at different times... I think unis can view applications (as some confirmed her ucas had been updated)....but cant action them as they need a data file...this was the email i got back from one of the unis. 'Thank you for your email. We receive the data file of applications for 2025-26 at some point from mid-October, though we do not have a specific date when we will receive this from UCAS. This date is different for each institution was the data is sent in batches'....bizarre as it's apparently with the unis according to ucas. I think it needs to be extracted then sent to admissions.

i believe once you have a welcome email it's with the unis but maybe not extracted

further email received from an admissions person

'We will officially receive the applications through from UCAS to our system towards the end of October so this means we are unable to fully review applications until that point.

We will be able to see that an application has been made but the application itself will not be sent through to us until the end of October.

I hope this makes sense.

Once we do officially receive the applications through at our end it may still be a number of weeks until you receive a response depending on the amount of applications received however we will work as fast as we can to get a response through in a timely manner.

I hope this helps and should you have any further queries on the meantime, please let us know and we will be happy to help'

(not aberdeen but this was RGU so i assume some unis in similar boat)

ucas website very misleading

So helpful of you to have found that out. It's all very opaque and annoying. Much appreciate your sleuthing.

Hi @Mackalyn , this is this University of Aberdeen rep account. Apologies as I know you have sent us a direct message about this also but I seem to be unable to send you a response so I'm just replying on thread here. In honesty I'm not familiar with all of the steps our admissions team take but I'll try to provide some relevant advice.

To my understanding your daughter should have received an email from UCAS confirming that her applications were submitted, and if she can see an application to us on UCAS then I can assure you that it has been submitted. We don't always send out confirmations ourselves at this stage but if she is concerned she can email [email protected] from the email address attached to her UCAS application along with her ID number and they will be able to advise her further.

I hope that helps and let us know if you have any more questions!

Related to the above, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has applied with us for your interest in our university! I can appreciate that it can be a worrying time having submitted your application and not having heard back and so I'll try to provide what information I can.

If your UCAS account is showing that you have submitted an application with us, please be reassured that this is accurate! We might not always send out confirmations ourselves immediately but this doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your application. UCAS and the various admissions teams of universities will be working to send out responses and acknowledgements as soon as they can but it can sometimes take a bit of time.
It is also worth being aware that even if you submit your application at this stage there is no guarantee that you'll hear before the UCAS deadline in January. There is no set timeline for hearing back on an application and for many courses we will need to wait until after the deadline so we can see all the applications and fairly weigh them up. Some people may hear back earlier but if you do not then please know this is quite normal and the case for almost everyone applying at this stage. Feel free to use this thread to talk to other applicants and we certainly appreciate that the wait can be an anxious one, but I hope knowing that there are others in the same boat is reassuring at least.

I hope this is helpful and if anyone wants any more clarification just ask!

Thanks for the useful steer. I think confusion can arise when the status on the UCAS website is so imprecise: my son's account says "What happens next? UCAS is processing your application. Once this is complete it will be sent to the universities and colleges you applied to for their consideration." I know that's not true, because other universities have sent acknowledgements, and also I DMd UCAS last week, who confirmed they'd passed on the application to all universities he's applied to by 5th Oct. So if UCAS would improve their status messaging, I think you'd get far fewer people being unsure as to what's happening.

Exactly and unis can see an application has been made. But UCAS send the full file down in batches at different times during october only at that point are unis able to action). I've had similar responses from unis ... My daughter had to inform them of a grade change.

Same! I thought you'd already had an offer (from a previous post) but must have been a different uni, now I re-read it. Congrats either way anyway!
