If I recall correctly, roughly 35% of people taking the full A level in Chemistry get at least a grade A - roughly a third of whom get an A*. And it’s usually around 60% of candidates who get at least a grade B.

At AS, I believe they are harsher and it’s something like 10% of candidates get an A (the top grade at AS).

So your chances of getting a very good grade indeed are actually pretty sizeable.

EDIT: For Edexcel A level chemistry this year, you can find the official stats below for AS and the full A level. My memory was reasonably good for the full A level, but for the AS it was 16.1% of all candidates who got an A.

That is not how it works.

If you put the effort in you can get an A or A* without cheating, it has been done before (many times) and will be done again (a lot). Please see @TypicalNerd's post above with a more detailed break down.
