Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice about returning to university to finish my Biomedical Science degree.
I originally studied Biomedical Science at Salford University. I completed a foundation year, full first and second year (120 credits each), and part of my third year, including coursework and my final year project. Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances I left before sitting my final exams, so I have 400 credits out of the 480 needed for the degree.
Recently, I contacted Salford to see if I could return, but because of their 5-year limit on Accreditation of Prior Learning, they’ve told me I can’t. This has been really disappointing, as I am very determined now to complete what I started and move forward in this career.
I’ve applied through clearing to other universities (e.g. Nottingham Trent, Derby, Bristol) to see if I could join their Biomedical Science programme, ideally in final year or through a top-up route. I know IBMS accreditation and HCPC registration are important, so I want to make sure whichever path I take still leads to that outcome.
My main questions are:
Has anyone managed to transfer into the final year/top-up Biomedical Science at another university after leaving their original course?
Do some universities tend to be more flexible with APL or credit transfers than others?
Would distance learning options (like Open University) still allow me to become HCPC registered, or would I miss out on the accredited lab experience?
Any advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation would be really appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance for any guidance — I really want to get this degree finished and move forward
