Ik quite a few people applying during their gap year (i.e. they start at uni one year later than the rest of their A level cohort).

It's definitely not unusual. The only situation I'd be hesitant is for a maths degree. If you want to do maths and apply after a gap year check the university website where the maths department outlines which colleges are okay with it. For any other subject I see no extra considerations
