Gap year and apply for Durham or go to Southampton

This is to study accounting and finance.
I’m in a situation where it’s either I take a gap year and apply for Durham or go to uni of Southampton. This is to study accounting and finance. I done a BTEC in Business and got a D* D* D so it’s not guaranteed I get into Durham but Southampton is 100%.

Go to Southampton.
Its a top Uni and you will have a great time.

You have no idea if you will even get an offer from Durham, it is not 'better' than Durham for A&T however you think you can measure that, and I suspect that you will feel much happier at Southampton.

Hey! I’m currently studying at Southampton, and honestly, if you’ve already got a guaranteed offer here for Accounting and Finance, I’d seriously consider just going for it.

Southampton is genuinely a great university the teaching is really high quality, and the business school is well-respected. The course is structured in a way that builds your understanding gradually, and lecturers are approachable if you ever need support. They also offer optional placement years and have strong connections with big companies, which really helps when it comes to graduate jobs or internships.

There’s also a lot of academic and personal support available. It could be through personal tutors, student hub, or career services. University actually care about students doing well and feeling supported, which is something I really value here.

In terms of student life, there’s a great balance. The campus has everything you need libraries, cafes, sports facilities and even pub. There are loads of societies and events to get involved in. You’ll meet people from all over, and the city itself is big enough that there’s always something going on. Plus is only one hour train away from London.

Taking a gap year for a shot at Durham is understandable, but since it’s not guaranteed you’ll get in and you already meet Southampton’s offer, it might not be worth the risk or the delay. Southampton gives you a solid foundation, good career prospects, and a great overall uni experience.

Let me know if you want to hear more about the course or student life! I’m here to answer all.

Best wishes
Junfan

Any strong reason to want to go to Durham - such as it being a local university for you?
