Prediction A* A C for law

Gonna try argue that A to be an A* but realistically where should I apply? I’m thinking of taking a gap year and re applying because the C is in maths and I’m usually good at it (As and Bs) but in the mock for my predictions I was incredibly unwell.

Any advice would be useful!

Hi @decorated-latene congrats on your results! I would look at the universities websites you're interested in and see what kind of requirements are needed as you may not need to retake. Once you are onto a degree, your a-levels and grades aren't really going to be judged by future employers as it's more the fact that you have a relevant degree so no need to worry about how your grades look.

A gap year can also be a really good idea regardless of grades, you could spend that time working on your resits if you wanted to, or saving up money for uni as maybe you want to buy a laptop or something. Travelling is also great and may make you feel ready to dive in to your degree once you've had a break from education for a year. The choice is completely yours of course but it can help to visit unis and their open days to make your decision.

Best of luck!

Many universities require all grades to be at least above an A (some universities have contextual so a B would be fine). I’ve got a strong personal statement and a strong reference and I haven’t sat my LNAT yet but from my Practise it’s quite strong. I really wanted to apply to Cambridge prior to these results but now for obvious reasons I can’t (I did a summer residential at Robinsons College as well which got my hopes up prior but oh well). My other university choices were UCL Exeter York Manchester KCL Warwick etc (I get contextual for all of these) but with an A* A* C prediction would I even be considered and how likely would it be for me to get an offer?

Yes, you can just study for A levels this year and avoid all the distractions around UCAS application etc. If you really work your socks off and don't just pretend, then a better grade than a C is totally possible. You can then apply with achieved grades in a gap-year - and even if you dont get straight A grades, there are plenty of other Unis that are 'good' for Law at AAB etc.

If you are eligible for lower grade contextual offers - check carefully, every Uni uses different criteria - then you only need to meet the contextual offer grades to be in contention for an offer, not the standard offer. Just be aware that York's contextual offer of BBB relies on you completing one of their WP programs - Post-16 - Schools and colleges, University of York
