Formal dress code - specifically re: shoes

Heyo. Incoming University College undergrad here going through the picking up smart clothes stage, and wondering -

For matriculation, formals, etc., what kind of shoes are advised? More specifically - what colour should soles be? I've a pair of black leather, closed lacing Oxfords, but the soles are kind of pale tan, rather than completely black. Is that acceptable?

Cheers :/

I’d say it’s alright, no one’s going to be scrutinising your soles, if they are then they are wayyyy too close

Your black leather shoes sound absolutely fine. There is no set type of shoe as long as you dress smart.
