Economics Uni applications

I’ve just sent my UCAS off, applying for Economics and Management at Oxford, and straight Econ at Bath, Exeter, Newcastle and Loughborough.
My predicted grades are A*A*A*, in Maths Econ and Psychology, and I achieved 9999998888 at GCSE.
Reading through posts from last year I’m slightly concerned at the number of people rejected from Bath!! Hopefully I get an offer🥲

Hi username7688311,

Congrats on getting your UCAS application sent off - that’s a huge step! 🎉

With A*A*A* predictions and those GCSEs you’ve got a really strong set of academics, so you’ll be a competitive applicant across all of your choices.

From an Exeter perspective, the Economics degree here is really well-regarded and gives you a lot of flexibility. In first year you cover the core areas (micro, macro, stats), and later on you can choose from loads of optional modules depending on whether you’re more interested in things like econometrics, development, finance, or policy. You also have the option of a placement year or study abroad, which can give you a big advantage when it comes to internships and grad jobs - from personal experience I would highly recommend considering it!

I wouldn’t stress too much about what happened with Bath last year - admissions vary a lot from cycle to cycle and there are always more strong applicants than places at popular unis. The important thing is that you’ve got a good spread of choices, and Exeter is a solid option both academically and for career prospects.

Fingers crossed for your applications!
