Attending getting to know people sessions

Hi guys, is it mandatory to attend the 'getting to know people on your course 'sessions? And how is it any different from induction where you already meet everyone ? Thanks x

This will vary from uni to uni, so it's hard to be certain unless we know where you're studying

Hi,
As the post above suggests, it depends on your uni. They usually aren't mandatory but strongly encouraged. They're a bit more relaxed than induction with icebreakers and group activities as opposed to presentations. I'd say go if you can, it's a nice low-pressure way to meet people before lectures properly kick in.

Hope this helps!

I would always recommend going, as these are likely people you will be spending years with. These sessions are usually more social and relaxed, a better way to get known within the group, Even if it turns out they are not compulsory, you should still go!

Hiya!

As others have said, it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and feel more settled, whether it’s compulsory or not. I attended these sessions during my introduction week, and it was a really nice experience. It gave me the chance to meet people before university officially started, and from there, we decided to go to a few fresher activities together instead of going alone, which was reassuring.

I hope this helps and enjoy Freshers week/s

Hi!

I know I'm saying similar to what others have said, I just thought it was worth me joining in!

Usually these sessions are not mandatory, but are strongly recommended. However sometimes they may be mandatory so you should definitely check this with your uni. If you are unsure, you can email the help team or the information is often online for you to find.

I think that they are a great way of meeting people on your course. I found some of my closest friends on the induction day so I would recommend it. However, not everyone will attend so if you can't go, there will still be plenty of opportunities to meet people so don't worry too much.

I hope this helps,
