Laptop for Durham General Engineering MENG course

Hi, for the above course I need to buy a laptop. How powerful does it need to be? Do I need integrated or discrete graphics card etc.? Is 14" or 16" better? I am not sure whether I need to run the software locally or from Uni servers. Will I actually be using laptop during lectures for anything other than note taking? Sorry, lots of questions!

My son currently MEng at Durham. He says a normal laptop is fine as most programmes available through uni computers. Lots of CAD used but it would be too expensive to have powerful enough laptop so he uses uni PCs. Many students have a laptop that folds over into a tablet to take notes (my son doesn’t). Hope this helps
