Advice on getting a job in Y12?

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask if anyone here who's 16 or in Y12 has a job and if so, how did you get one? I've been trying to get one for a while now since I want to move out when I turn 18, and for that I need money. Any advice or knowledge would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Hey! I’ve been working since I was 16 and my first two jobs I found through facebook. They were both smaller local businesses which meant less applicants and I knew that all communication was with the owner or someone who worked there day to day.
Your local councils website is another good place to look. They will probably have casual work at leisure centres or other similar council owned facilities offered at various points in the year, even if temporary. With your council you know it will be trustworthy and casual work although not guaranteed is flexible which is good for students. My local councils doesn’t require a cv for applications, just a questionnaire type thing and a short statement about your suitability.

I hope you find something!

Hi. I've not yet found a job, but my friend has had two since she turned 16 (she's now 18), so I'll share what she told me.

Her first job, she walked into places and asked if they were hiring. I think she went into about 6 or 7 places before she found one that was. After having her first job, she found it much easier to get a second.

And whilst I've not found a job, I did successfully do volunteering during the summer. For this, I emailed a couple of charities nearby and asked if they were open to me volunteering during the summer holiday.

Having volunteering or work experience/a previous job is supposed to help, so if you're struggling loads with finding a job, maybe try to find a short stint of volunteering and/or work experience (which could be virtual) first.

Hope this helps 😊

Most shops, supermarkets, fast food places, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, garden centres, leisure centres, local attractions, touristy type places etc take on people from 16.
Look on websites such as indeed.
Look on companies own websites. Some companies such as tesco, mcdonalds etc have their vacancies on the careers section of their website.
Look on facebook. Some independent places advertise on there.
Look in shop/cafe/restaurant windows. Some independent places advertise there too.

Once you have got a job, it will be easier to get another.
