Hi, is anyone else considering applying for Architecture at York (2026). As the course isn’t accredited yet I’m unsure on whether to apply.

The York course isn't even listed as a candidate course yet on the RIBA website, which is unusual as the first cohort will be starting this term.

One thing to bear in mind is that it takes time to build up staff and resources for a new course, so you might find that your year cohort is small and only a few staff members are employed until the course is fully established. If you haven't done so already, go to an open day and ask a lot of questions about staff, department resources, workshops, etc.

Also, if you've not seen it already, there is a thread for this year's architecture applicants that you might like to join:

Hi purplelightblue,

We're so pleased you're considering studying Architecture at York!

We have welcomed our first cohort to the course this September and we are applying for RIBA validation for Part 1 which is the first of 3 stages of qualification to become a qualified architect.

The course has been designed incorporating the RIBA professional criteria. Our course documents will be submitted to the RIBA, and we will be seeking to be considered as a candidate course so that we can apply for validation for the first cohort who will graduate in 2028.

York is a great place to study Architecture as an evolving heritage city undergoing dynamic transformation. Through partnerships with local businesses and initiatives like York Central, you’ll have the chance to see first-hand how contemporary architecture can shape historic contexts.

What's more, you can gain real-world careers insight and connect with practicing architects. Through the RIBA Mentorship Scheme, our Architecture Clinic, and connections with practicing architects and construction professionals, you will graduate ready to contribute meaningfully to architectural change.

If you need further information, check out our course web page where you'll find lots of info about the programme. Is there anything else we could help with, any aspect of study that you're particularly looking into, perhaps?

Best wishes,

J
