CARDIFF UNI - Adam street garden

Hi! I’m starting at Cardiff Uni this September and I’ll be staying at Adam Street Gardens. I’m getting there on the 20th and I'm very nervous because I’ve got no idea what to expect or what’s gonna happen, I'm still abit unclear about what's gonna happen in regards to the beginning first weeks.

Just wondering if there are any other undergrads staying there (or any other nearby private accoms ) who’d like to meet up or get to know each other before things properly start? i was told that i would be placed with other undergrads and it would be nice to get to know everyone.

Also, in regards to other Cardiff students, does anyone know how the first weeks usually go? I still don’t have a timetable and just wanna know what everyone else is planning on doing when they arrive.

thank you!!! :-)

Hiya!

A lot goes on the first few weeks of uni, but I recommend just getting involved in as much as you can and really just throw yourself into it, it will calm down and you will get into the swing of things.

You can find flatmates here on these facebook groups created for you by our Students' Union. But also check out these links for events happening in the next couple of weeks: Events hosted by our students' union - here, and events hosted by our residence life team - here. There are so many activities from nightclub events, to city tours, to crafting. Definitely check them out. I know its a lot, and could be overwhelming, but you don't have to do everything, I would try and take it as an opportunity to try new things and maybe step outside of your comfort zone, as you will have time to chill after, and it is a great way to meet new people and find what and who you enjoy most.

Academically, the first lectures are usually light introductions rather than anything too heavy, giving you space to adjust. You’ll also get inductions, campus tours, and time to figure out your routine. The big shift is being more independent, managing cooking, budgeting, and doing laundry alongside studies.

I hope this is helpful, but you will have lots of opportunities for support along the way, I would recommend joining the Student Mentor Scheme as well for support from students in the years above, who will most likely be in your school of study.

Let me know if you have any other questions
