Hi guys, I have confirmed to study Comparative literature and cultures at the University of Exeter. The course looks really interesting and I love the town of Exeter, however I can’t find anyone else doing this course (through online group chats/ social media) and i’m unsure of the career prospects. Any advice is appreciated, and if you’re doing this course, pls connect with me!! Thanks!

Hi!

Not exactly the same as you, but I'm currently studying a degree in English Literature, and I had the same worries as you before coming up to uni.

A degree in English can lead you down many pathways - i'd reccommend having a think about whether you'd consider a career in an industry such as teaching, publishing, journalism, library sciences, etc.

The great thing about studying literature, though, is that it offers a lot of transferable skills that you can apply to go down different routes. People with English degrees will typically go on to work in industries outside of their degree as well, such as law, accounting, marketing, and business!

Hope this helps,

Amy (Lancaster Student Ambassador).
