Hi Anonymous,

I've been at Exeter for the last 4 years, and over that time, I have had lots of friends who commuted and still got entirely involved in student life. While it is a different experience to living in the city or on campus commuting in doesn't limit you to what socities you can join or meeting new people. Most of my friends who commuted in actually really appreciated being in socities or sports clubs as social events were planned in advance and they could plan ahead for when they wanted to be in the city or maybe stay with friends etc. There will be lots of other students commuting in or on placement outside of exeter so you will meet people who also don't solely spend all their time on or living on campus so please don't feel too stressed. Put yourself out there and give things a go, that was the best thing I did in my first year as it meant I had lots of opportunties to meet people.

Enjoy the starting university and settling in,
