Mphil Anthropology Course Advice

I'm looking for a Mphil Anthropology Course.

The ones I'm looking at are UCL Anthropology, Goldsmiths Anthropology, St Andrews Social Anthropology MRes or LSE MRes Anthropology. I'm open to any other options. I heard mixed experiences with UCL.

Hi,

SOAS is located in Bloomsbury, in the heart of London, and ranked 6th in the UK and 18th in the world for Anthropology (QS World University Rankings 2025). The Anthropology department offers a range of postgraduate courses, which you can read about below:

MPhil/PhD in Anthropology and Sociology
MRes Social Anthropology
MA Social Anthropology
MA Anthropology of Global Futures and Sustainability
MA Anthropology of Food
MA Medical Anthropology and Health

SOAS specialises in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, using context-specific and multidisciplinary approaches to move beyond Eurocentric models of thinking. If this is lens interests you, then it could be a great fit!

You can read about the experiences of postgraduate SOAS Anthropology students here:
Careers: How MA Medical Anthropology aided my role as a Global Health Communications Consultant
Beyond victimhood: How western narratives shape Inuit struggles for environmental justice

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!
