wanting to transfer already - help

hi! i came to bath spa on saturday and im originally from near manchester. i’ve never felt more isolated in my entire life. i my last choice of accommodation and it’s so inconvenient for my studies. a majority of my friends are in manchester and im already feeling depressed and wanting to drop out. i have a welcome course tomorrow at my uni for my specific subject but im already thinking about transferring. i’ve received one loan but i haven’t officially started my education here. is it possible that i could discuss transferring with admissions at bath spa and go through clearing to get a place at manchester for forensic psychology. if you’re wondering if ive actually tried to make friends here. i really have. i’ve been in all of the group chats and spoke to a range of people and even went out yesterday to see what it’s like but it’s just not my vibe at all. i won’t enjoy it but i don’t want to disappoint my family and quit without having a fallback plan. please advise me if you can.
Hi, sorry to hear you are feeling like this 🙁. I'm sure a lot of students are feeling the same as you, so don't feel like you are the only one.

It sounds like there are a few different things that are worrying you - so maybe you could go and chat with student services to break it down and see if there any things that you could change to make things better for you, such as your accommodation.

It could be that be that if you go to the welcome event for your course, you might meet people who are on the same wavelength as you?

But ultimately if you have tried all options and still don't feel its the right place for you, I'm sure student services will be able to discuss options with you.

Good luck with everything and I'm sure you will come to the right decision for you 😊
Your concerns about the environment might be valid, but I would say that it is very early to be making these kind of deciions. Groupchats are just one way of networking and the experience you are having now is is not really reflective of being a full time student there, (with an academic routine and peer groups on and off your course).

Hello,

I’m really sorry you’re feeling that way, university can be very isolating when you don’t know anyone.

You can contact universities in manchester if they’re still accepting students but keep in mind that you may have missed out on a few lessons and lectures and you’ll need a lot of catching up.
If you’ve missed the deadline, give your current university a try this year (you might change your mind). And a lot of universities accept 2nd year transfer so you might be able to transfer next year.

All the best

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're feeling this way, moving to university can be really hard and I completely sympathise with you. Lots of student will also be feeling like this, it's a massive step to move away from home and start something so new.

With that said, I'd definitely recommend speaking to your universities Support Team. They will be able to offer help, reassurance and advice as well as just being a friendly face to talk to.

I'd also suggest if you can, going to all the welcome events and introductions that are on offer. Although this may feel scary and the last thing you probably want to do, it'll be a good way to meet course mates and other new students!

Ultimately if you have tried all options and feel that you would be happier closer to home, I'd contact universities in Manchester to discuss a potential transfer and go from there. You current universities Student Support team will also be able to help with this so I'd really recommend speaking to them either way.

Best of luck, I'm sure you will make the correct decision for yourself.
^Hannah 🙂
