Compelling Personal Reasons

Hi, I suffered with mental health problems in first year of university. I dropped out in the January. I changed courses and dropped out again after completing my first year, however did not go to any lectures. I had no support from the university. I dropped out and took a year to get myself better. I have applied for compelling personal reasons with a doctors letter and a written cover letter as I have enough evidence to support this application. Is it possible to get an extra year of funding if I dropped out after “completing” a year?

Hi there. How many years of previous study in total do you have? Thanks, Leah.

I’ve used up two years of funding. I dropped out the first time halfway through and the second time after a full year. Both due to reasons supported by my GP.

Thanks. Yes, you can apply for any year you did not complete/progress.

More information here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/going-back-to-uni-or-repeating-a-year

We can accept photocopies of the following;

-Letter from a GP on headed paper
-Letter from University on headed paper
-Letter from Social Services on headed paper
-Letter from clergy or professional person on headed paper
-Death Certificate and/or a Birth Certificate

The evidence must be;
- Signed and dated
-Confirms the reason why you could not continue with your studies, how your condition impacted your ability to study and
- When this took place

You will also need to send this with a letter from yourself explaining what has happened, in your own words. All CPR evidence is assessed on a case by case basis. Thanks, Leah.
