Gap year 2025

Hi guys, I decided in january this year that I would do a gap year and so far I've applied for volunteering and did one internship. I've applied for apprenticeships for this december/january 2026 and wanted to know if there is anything I could do from september - october. This could be related to internships, work experiences or just life in general!

Volunteer, maybe travel a little bit around the UK or Europe if you have a little money. Very feasible to do a nice little holiday for dirt cheap these days if you pick your dates right. Or maybe pick up a hobby - if you ever wanted to read a certain book or pick up the guitar or something along those lines, do it!

Thanks! I've wanted to pick up a hobby, maybe even scrapbooking or playing the piano because it seems really fun. I'm definitely going to try doing more day trips to different places because apparently they're really cheap.

Oh yeah they are. I'm a big fan of the 16-25 railcard if you don't have one yet, it really makes travelling by train a lot more affordable

Hi,

You’ve already done really well with volunteering and an internship. In the meantime, you could:
•Complete an online course (adds to your CV)
•Volunteer locally for extra experience and networking
•Learn/develop a skill (e.g., a new language, coding, creative projects, cooking)
•Explore personal hobbies
•Solo travel
•Take day trips by car or train to explore new places and gain experiences
•Read around your chosen field or listen to podcasts to stay informed
•Join workshops, events, or taster days to meet people and explore interests

Hope this helps, and good luck with everything

Hello, I'm also on a gap year and I'm wondering how you got your internship?

Linkedin! It's really useful for internships and just work experience in general. I would definitely recommend to make connections as they would often repost really good opportunities. Best of luck in securing an internship!

Thank you, I've definitely been meaning to get my LinkedIn sorted for a year now 😅.

I actually got a job offer! So I'm thinking I'll work for this year, but definitely searching around for opportunities/connections will probably come in handy in the future as well.

Thank you! Do you have any tips for how to make up my LinkedIn? Every time I open it I don't even know where to start 😅

Here's some tips for updating your Linkedin:

1.

Connections - try connecting with people you know, people at companies you want to work in and following the firms is really good. Make the most by asking them for any advice or work experience help!

2.

Personalise your header - where you're studying/working and what field you really want to go into

3.

About me - I feel like alot of people skip this part but clearly outlining in the summary what experiences you currently have and what you want to achieve the future really shows employers what you are looking for

4.

Posts - tailor your posts, showcasing your work experiences/internships or just general life tips that you realised and what to share with your network. Posting regularly will definitely allow greater exposure on your profile and people will definitely want to connect with you!!

5.

Don't be too formal! Be yourself and think of it more as social media but for 'work' (weird way to put it but being generic like 'I just visited XY and it was really insightful' won't make an employer want to hire you when they look over your LinkedIn.)

Hope this all helps! Might be alot of information but if you need any other help tailoring your LinkedIn, feel free to message
