What should I do at university?

I've been struggling for a while on what I want to do, and I keep neglecting the idea or trying to find alternatives because I'm finding it hard.
I want to be a teacher, between a really long process of elimination and just a nagging feeling, I really do think I want to be a teacher. I want to be a chemistry teacher, ideally, at GCSE and A Level. The problems are 1. I find it difficult at A Level, but its by far my favourite A Level and I definitely want to do it. 2. I ABSOLUTELY HATTTTEEE LAB REPORTS!!! I can do the lab work just fine, but LAB REPORTS WILL BE MY DEMISE.
I hate them.
So, my problem is, what do I do at university?
If I did chemistry, or even settled for biology, I would absolutely not be able to cope with the lab reports nor the research modules. Theory, GREAT, AMAZING! Application, a bit more difficult, but DOABLE AND ENJOYABLE. Lab work... HATEEEE it

Please help x

Hiya! (:

totallyyyy get the lab report hate😭 - they are brutal sometimes lol!! - but i've found through uni there's been a lot more help and support available for them to make the process that bit easier (: - before going to uni to study chem i was also worried i'd struggle as i'd only really done maybe 1 or 2 lab reports beforehand because of covid when i was at school + it just being a singular assisgnment in the scottish system!😅

the main thing is though that you enjoy what your doing!!- especially when picking a uni course, with anything like labs, coursework, research etc - your lecturers should be more than happy to explain and aid in that transation from school to uni!! - i know my first year a lot of the reports were just getting to grips with the writing style and lots of feedback to help improve😊

if your actually enjoying the lab work and the content taught then chem sounds like a fab option!! - totally get it does feel daunting with the workload but it is manageable and theres lots of support avaible, in my first year i would have 1 lab session a week usually around 3/4 hours long and then afterwards a post lab quiz, report or it was assesed within the lab based on the work we were doing! - as im getting further into my degree a lot more of my lab modules are reports and theres more labs a week but at first it was a great way to ease into it and get used to the strucutre (:

hope this helps, if theres anything else your wondering about the course or just general uni life- just tag me in a post and im more than happy to have a wee yap!! 😊

Honestly if you don't know it very well it will be much easier to learn how to do it, rather than basing your whole career direction over something that can easily be learned. it doesn't sound like an fundamental incompatibility.

I had struggled with Lab reports as well in my first year and a really patient professor spent 20 minutes teaching me how to write every step and the logic of it and totally cleared it up for me and I have been getting at least 80% on lb reports since.
You can totally figure it out! Good luck!
