Should I do Medicine?

Hi

I’ve taken Bio, Chem, Maths and just sat the UCAT and got a good enough score to apply to study medicine at uni.

However, my teachers seem doubtful of me. I’ve always been quite a quiet person, I dislike being called on in class and freeze and forget my answer which until today I thought was relatively normal to happen sometimes? I am awkward, as I have social anxiety, but never struggled when speaking to patients or doctors on my work experience.

My teacher basically implied that I shouldn’t do medicine today, asking if I’d spoken to people about pursing it and what do they think, e.g. if I should carry on applying.

I have good grades and have always wanted to pursue medicine but do struggle with anxiety, and this has just completely ruined my confidence. Any advice is appreciated

If you want to then go for it! I used to have social anxiety like that (and still do a bit), just try to put yourself out there and you will see the improvement.
Plus, being a doctor is 6/7 years away so you have plenty of time.
You will be fine, try not to worry!

If you don't do it, you will carry this regret for the whole life. Do what you feel is right and make you happy. There's nothing more rewarding than job/profession that you're passionate about. Half of the young population suffer from anxiety of some kind these days. Good luck and never let people drag you down.
