About school choice for MSc Economics

Hi Everyone,

I want to become an economist one day, and I am interested in developing my knowledge mainly in macroeconomics and closed-economy economics, such as Public Economics and Monetary Economics.

Determining the optimal interest rate, tax rate and finding the best macroeconomic policy for my country is where my passion lies.

Also, I would like to study in the UK.

Which school should I pick? I want a decent, successful postgraduate experience with the opportunity to learn things that can be quickly applied in the real-world, not just complicated theories.

I am thinking about St. Andrews and Sheffield, but feel free to raise any other suggestions and give reasons.

Thank you!

What sort of academic background are you applying with and where do you want to work afterwards.

Lots of people tend to upgrade the level of their uni when applying for postgraduate study as there's less competition, so while Sheffield and St Andrews are decent for undergrad (St Andrews particularly), they're pretty mediocre at postgrad level. But whether this is good enough depends with what grades you're applying with and what you want to get out of the master's.
