Hello Mia

9th for economics? Is this a joke?

The University of Essex takes people in clearing with grades of CCD for the Bachelor of Science Economics programme. I don’t believe this is comparable to strong university economics courses that ask for AAA as the minimum entry requirement. This is the entry data on UCAS’s website: IMG_1152.png

From more reliable sources, I believe that the following list is more accurate for economics rankings:

Cambridge
LSE
Oxford
UCL
Warwick
St Andrews
Durham
Bristol
Nottingham

All of the above require minimum AAA, compared to CDD. Do you really believe 9th is accurate and that the University of Essex trumps any of the above 9 universities for economics??

Oh my god

Don’t get me started…

Hi @sdfj ,

Our university rankings have been provided by The Guardian University Guide 2026. The rankings are a based off many influencing factors including student satisfaction and educational quality, not entry requirements to the specific course. You can find out more here: University of Essex 12th in Guardian University Guide 2026 | University of Essex

The Guardian weights things according to their own 'everyone must win prizes' left-wing agenda. I would never accept any league table they make as having any merit in judging where the best academics are.

High barrier to entry does not equal good teaching quality

Trying to throw economics terms at me?

Well, there’s a positive correlation - I never claimed that one directly causes the other!
