2025-2026 school year gyg!!! (S4, I'm in Scotland)

Hello! I stumbled upon the gyg Study Blogging Competition on accident, and thought to myself, what better way motivate myself (and provide myself with the structure I so crave)
So here we are :h:

Academic information:

Past Achievements:

N5 mandarin - A (I did this a year early in S3)

Subjects I will take this year

N5 English

N5 Maths

N5 Biology

N5 Chemistry

N5 Physics

N5 Computing

N5 Business

Higher Applications of Mathematics

Higher Mandarin

It's a lot (and I kind of regret taking so many) :s-smilie:, regardless, we persevere.
Join me on this journey :h: + please give me advice on how to study for any of the subjects if you have taken them previously

Hi. My name's Jasmin, and I'm now in S5. I have my own gyg (Jasmin's S5 Gyg).

At Nat 5 I got straight A1's in English, maths, history, modern studies, and RMPS, and A2's in biology and French.

I'm now studying Highers in English, history, classical studies, modern studies, and business management.

If you have any questions about how to study for some of your subjects, I'm more than happy to help. 😊

I don't have any specific questions right now, thank you though! Also congratulations on your amazing scores 😍

Update: Saturday 20th of September
It's been a few weeks of school, and our first predicted grades are already coming out?!
(A in maths and business, don't know the rest yet)

I'm supposed to have my first draft for my English folio well underway but I've only got a barely fleshed-out introduction. Honestly, English is the one subject I'm terrified for.

Update, 23/09/25
I have a business unit test tomorrow (so I really should be using this time to study 😔)
Humanities are NOT my strong suit, they interest me, but I never seem to be able to write enough, my brain just fails me.

For my last unit test, my fountain pen ran out of ink in the last 20 seconds when I was on my last sentence, and I didn't have time to refill the cartridge. That was incredibly painful.

Wish me luck for this one though!

Update 18/09/25
My exam timetable:

Business (N5): April 24th

Biology (N5): April 28th

English (N5): April 30th

Maths (N5): May 8th

Chem (N5): May 12th

Applications (H): May 15th

Computing (N5): May 20th

Physics (N5): May 21

Mandarin (H): May 27th

Actually really happy with it, except computing and physics being on consecutive days, but I can make that work.

Updates:

I got a 26/28 in business management for the marketing unit (the time limit was terrifying, but I just wrote and didn't stop, my revision really paid off) 🥳

Registered to go to the Edinburgh Open day for next week to explore options.

Maths test tomorrow (both papers, 80 mins!!)

(Slightly unconventional) study tips for everyone (These worked for me, see if they work for you x)

Film a time lapse of yourself studying, I makes you want to study longer as the result will be cooler

Listen to a podcast/audiobook that you have already listened to before (I find this comforting like music but not as distracting)

Explain the topic to yourself in different personas

Chew gum.

Been a long time!
I've been busy, in fact I hope you have been too, for it means progress! I finished the first draft of my English folio recently, and am currently revising for biology and chemistry unit tests which I will sit next week!

My H Apps project has only the conclusion unfinished, which I plan to get done before the October holidays.

Hello! My name is Simon and I'm currently an S6. Welcome (albeit a late one) to the GYG community.

First off, wow. That is a lot of subjects. Including the three sciences. Very impressive! Good luck with the exams when the time comes.

I won't bore you with the details of my own grades but I did also sit biology, chemistry, computing, maths and English at Nat5 so if you have any questions then feel free to reach out. Otherwise, I'll just be following along over the year.

Just wanted to add onto this to say I'm on a gap year at the moment and similarly, feel free to ask advice on any subjects you're struggling with I took a lot of the same ones and got A1s, but I'll also be following along. xx

OMG! lucky to stumble here.. I am also in S4 doing all the same subjects as you except business. its great to follow along to your journey. I started one too for the same reason. Hope you do great!

Sorry for not posting here for ages, I'm currently on holiday (one last time to relax before prelims which for my school is outrageously early) and the jet lag is seriously getting to me though I've never had a consistent sleep schedule anyways. I'm still trying my best to study, while maintaining a decent amount of sleep and learning about the culture of all the places I'm travelling to.
Before the October holidays the results of a couple unit tests came back:
N5 Biology Unit 3: 100%
N5 Chemistry Unit 1: 100%
N5 Physics: 89% (dynamics), 85% (space). (physics is such a pain)
N5 Business Management of People: (I genuinely forgot to ask for my results, will update once I get them 😭)
N5 Mathematics (not a unit): 95% (paper one), 100% (paper two)

Overall I'm quite proud of my results, and hope I can move forward at the same momentum.
momentum = mass * velocity? (Seriously I had to search this up)
Oh there are so many people here! I wish everyone luck!! 💗

Life has been hectic, seriously. The amount of pressure has been mounting up, I've witnessed panic attacks, apathy, burnout... There is just an unspoken tension about the environment, but I'm still relatively fine.

I recently finished operations in business (and we have indeed completed all units except for finance), so we're going to focus solely on prelim revision. We've truly flown through our units.

I also recently finished my radiation unit in physics, and apparently we won't be fully covering electricity and waves because we did it partially in S3. Now the problem is I never took physics in S3...

Hmm, what have I forgotten, there's so many things (which is my fault as I update so infrequently):

Oh yes, I got my English folio first draft back, with a predicted 13 marks which I am content with as English is not my strong suit.

And I have participated in the bebras challenge (yk the beaver one?) and I did the senior one this year.
