Is Uni of Liverpool MPharm course good?

Hello,

I know MPharm is the same throughout all unis in the UK however I am slightly worried about University of Liverpool as it is a University I want to apply for but according to the website it isn’t accredited yet and the programme is subject to approval for 2026 entries.
Do you think it’s worth applying here?
Also if there are any MPharm Uni of Liverpool students on here, what is it like?

So all new MPharm courses are subject to accreditation. It's basically a seven step process, with the first three stages completed before the first intake joins, and then working through till they graduate four years later. The government is committed to increasing pharmacy student places, and as such there have been a lot of new courses over the past years. Swansea has just completed their accreditation. Leicester, Teeside, Bangor and Sheffield are in the middle of it as their first cohorts have not graduated. Liverpool and I think Suffolk are preparing for an intake in 2026. All new courses are provisionally accredited, but no, there is no guarantee the university will complete the process. Liverpool John Moores has been running MPharm for some time though, and Uni of Liv has a long and proud medical tradition, so there shouldn't be any problems. If you look up the GPharmC reports for one of the new courses, or for Swansea which has just completed it, you will see that it is a thorough but quite straightforward process. Liverpool is great, go for it. It's only one of your choices, after all.

Hi,

I’m a third-year pharmacy student, and if you’re considering studying in Liverpool, LJMU is a great option.

The MPharm course offers:
•Accreditation by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
•Teaching from one of the oldest and well-established pharmacy schools in the world
•Excellent links and work placement opportunities with local hospitals, community pharmacies, and primary care teams
•A strong focus on applying science to clinical practice
•Work placements, student-patient engagement, and inter-professional learning from Year 1
•Support for personal and professional development to help students reach their full potential

If you have any questions about the course or university life, please feel free to ask

Hi Tayba,
Yes, I am considering LJMU as one of my options and I plan to attend the open day! How many times a week are you usually in lectures? Is MPharm a very demanding course?

That’s lovely to hear you’re considering LJMU and planning to attend our open day! In first year you’re usually in around four days a week, with a mix of lectures, workshops and labs. Timetables can vary each week, so it’s important to keep an eye on them. The MPharm course is demanding because there’s a lot to cover, but it’s definitely manageable as long as you stay organised and keep on top of your work. You’ll also have plenty of support from tutors and peers across all modules. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask here or message me on UniBuddy through our course page.

Hi,

I’d recommend contacting the admissions team to clarify this, as entry requirements can sometimes change from year to year. They’ll be able to confirm whether the B in Chemistry is still essential or if meeting the overall UCAS points will be sufficient.

You can reach them by email at [email protected] or by phone on 0151 231 2777.

Hope this helps,
