Sixth form application: Predicted score less than Mock score by 2 grades

Hi All,

Please help me with your advice as I am really worried about my sixth form admissions.

I got grade 8+ in my Year 10 mock exam for Maths. However my school has given "End of KS4 Target" grade as 6 in Maths. I have been performing consistently well and getting higher grades in Maths in mocks as well as internal exams and this "End of KS4 Target grade" is computer generated based on Year 6 SAT's and the teachers are unable to change it.

I want to pursue Maths at A-levels and I am really scared that if I put this as a predicted grade in my sixth form application, I would not even get a conditional offer from most good colleges as their entry requirement is 7 and above.

What should I do? Should I put my mock exam results in the predicted grade or should I put the lower grade ? Will I lose out on my conditional offer if I put the lower grade.

In my school the predicted grades and end of year target weren't the same thing so it might be the same for yours. It would be best to talk to your teachers about this. Explain to them that the grade is necessary for your 6th form application (and since you got a high 8 in your mock they should have no problem predicting you a 9).

Hey @Couch P0tat0,

As mentioned above, talk to your teacher. If the 'End of KS4 Target' is generated based on Year 6 SAT's, it isn't a reliable indicator of your current ability. You should be able to put your most recent mock grade (8) on your sixth form application form instead.

If you do need to include your 'End of KS4 Target' grade on your application form, it might be worthwhile getting in contact with sixth form admissions by email/phone to explain your situation.

Hope this helps and best of luck,
Eve (Kingston Rep).

Targets and predictions are two completely different things.

Targets are what you'd need to get to make expected progress - you're clearly doing better than this.

It should be predictions going on applications.

[I'm a teacher i/c assessment - it sounds like your school may not be explaining this data well]
