Paid Part-Time Jobs at City St George’s: How I Manage as an International Student

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m currently an international student studying MPH at City St George’s, and I wanted to share how I’ve been balancing paid part-time jobs with my studies and clinical placements.

As an international student on a Student Visa, I can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and I've found a few flexible on-campus and remote roles that not only fit my schedule, but also pay fairly well 💸.

Here's a quick breakdown of the jobs I’ve done and what each one is like:

💼 Paid Roles I've Worked

Student Caller - City St George’s Finance Team (Fundraising)
I contacted alumni to talk about giving back to the university. It really improved my phone and professional communication skills and it's a paid role with flexible evening shifts.

UniBuddy Online Ambassador
I chat with prospective students online through the UniBuddy platform, answering questions about courses, placements, and student life. Fully remote and paid per conversation/hour, super easy to fit into your week.

UniBuddy x TSR Representative
In this role, I post regularly on The Student Room and respond to questions from future applicants. It's a great way to support others while building transferable skills, and yes, it's also paid.

Events and Marketing Ambassador
I support university events like open days, offer-holder visits, and student panels. It’s a fun, sociable job, and you’re paid hourly for both prep and event time.

Balancing Work & Study:

I track my hours carefully to stay within the 20-hour limit (important for visa compliance!)

I choose remote or flexible jobs that I can schedule around lectures and placement shifts

I avoid work during placement-heavy weeks and catch-up during reading weeks or weekends.

For anyone thinking about working part-time:

Are you an international or home student working while studying healthcare?

What roles have worked best for you? Any to avoid?

Have you found balancing paid work and placements manageable?

Hey can i ask how you apply for a student ambassador and unibuddy ambassador

Hey! Sure, I actually got a general email from the university in my Outlook (sent to my college ID) with a link to apply online. I filled out the application form through that. You can also check Unitemps, as they sometimes post openings for Student Ambassador or Unibuddy roles there too. So I’d recommend keeping an eye on both your unicersity email and Unitemps for updates.
