Hello everyone :hi:

Are you thinking of studying at the University of Chester and applying in 2026? It's a great university with a really super English department, but if you would like to see for yourself, why not come to our next Open Day?

The Open Day is on 18th October and is a brilliant way to see the University, meet the staff in the department as well as speak to the student services teams who are all on hand to answer your questions, anything from accommodation to finance, to years abroad and the Student Support team. Whatever you want to know, you will be able to find out the answer. As well as talking to staff you can also attend various information talks and have a student led tour of the campus and the university accommodation, so you can find out all about the University from the student's perspective. Open Days are an excellent way to gain a sense of how you feel at the University to help you to decide if it is somewhere that you would like to spend time studying for the next part of your academic journey.

If you are interested in finding out more, or would like to book to attend, just follow this link: Open Days | University of Chester.

Alternatively, please feel free to ask me anything and I'll try and help!
Hope to see you soon

Hey Jess, 👋

It's so great to hear you have applied for English Literature at Sheffield. That is the course I did for my undergrad and I can 100% endorse it. It is such a great course with so many amazing module options. You can even study creative writing, theatre and film on the course! The staff are also so friendly and supportive. 😄

I enjoyed the course so much I stayed on for my MA and now I am doing my PhD in English Literature there too!

Please do let me know if you have any questions about the course or perhaps the University of Sheffield more generally and I'll be happy to help. You can reach out to me here or via the chat to our students page here, where you can send a message directly 🙂

Good luck with your exams!

All best wishes,
Phoebe 😀

Hi leeloveslanguage, 👋

So great to hear you have received an offer to study linguistics and modern languages at Sheff.

As I have previously mentioned to another comment, the English department at Sheffield is amazing and everyone is so friendly and supportive. I know a few people currently doing linguistics specifically and they love it!

In terms of the languages, I don't know anyone who has chosen Russian, but myself and some of my friends have studied a few of the other languages on other and I can honestly say the classes are so helpful! I did intermediate French and the teaching was amazing and we were given really helpful textbooks to supplement our learning in seminars.

If you have any questions about the English department, or Modern Languages, I would be more than happy to help. Otherwise, you can reach out to me or another student ambassador directly via our Chat to our Students page here.

All best wishes,
Phoebe 🙂

Hiii. I know this is out of context. Does anyone hear about English Language and Literature interviews?

[I've moved you post to a more relevant thread]

It's unlikely you will be interviewed for this subject unless you've applied to Oxbridge. In which case you will find the link to an interview tracking spreadsheet in the first post of the 2026 official applicants threads for those unis.

I have applied to Oxford...

Has anyone who is not an international student received English offers from Warwick or Durham?
I have seen Durham start giving offers, however, they are most likely to be given to international students
