Nerfed by ucat deciles??

I've gotten really conflicted responses on where to apply with my stats: home non contextual
GCSE: 99999999988
UCAT: 2280 b1
A level: 4 A*

I feel like my ucat nerfed me for imperial and Bristol... Realistically should I still apply for those two? I'm already set on Cambridge and UCL cus they're more holistic.

I also spent a while on my personal statement and worked hard for my grades so I highk want it to be considered pre interview... Any suggestions for good unis that I can put as my safe?

Hi I'm starting at Southampton for med so I'll see how I can help.

Honestly I think you should still apply to those two. You've got really great GCSEs and predicted grades and you've got a really good UCAT.

Disclaimer: I'm estimating what your UCAT score would have been based on last year's being out of 3600. Assuming that You would have got about 3040 give or take

I applied to Cambridge, Bristol and I was going to apply to Imperial as well. I had almost the same stats as you (only difference was the UCAT) Based on my year, Bristol's cutoff was 3000 or 3010 and Imperial's cutoff was 3020 so I think you'd have a decent chance of getting an interview.

Even if you don't think that's going to work, there are lots of other unis you can apply to. If you would like you can also consider Southampton or Exeter bc they would gladly give you an interview for your stats (for Exeter, check the deciles though bc that is a factor they consider pre-interview)

Hope that helped! 😀

Tysm for ur response!! I definitely keep that in mind. I was actually considering both Southampton and Exeter...

But as a poc I'm not sure if I'd want to live in Exeter/ Devon? I also really want a science heavy medical school which is why I decided not to apply for Southampton cus, as contradictory as it sounds, its too 'clinical'.

That's why I genuinely love the course at Cambridge, imperial and UCL... I am considering Leicester and Sheffield cus these are more research and science focused medical universities. Dyk if this is true and do u reckon these are sensible safes for me?

Do you mind if I ask what made you chose Ur unis and why not imperial? Also if I'm wrong ABT Southampton pls lmk I'm very open minded

ALSO GOOD LUCK FOR UNI... I hope everything goes get for you!!!

Hey! As someone who lives near Exeter, I'm just curious as to why you wouldn't want to live here as a poc? You don't have to answer but I am genuinely curious

To be perfectly honest I live in an area which is very diverse... and I'm not sure I want to study 6yrs in a uni recognised as the least diverse Russel group uni and where only 13% of people are an ethnic minority.
However I'm very open to ppl telling me otherwise.. I have absolute no hate for exter and the medical course looks great there lol. If anything pls convince me to apply 🙂

That’s a really fair concern; I can’t personally speak from lived experience as a POC, but from what I’ve seen, Exeter and the South West are genuinely welcoming and inclusive. Exeter has an Equality, Diversity & Inclusion team, cultural competence training, inclusivity campaigns and a range of cultural and faith-based societies (Afro-Caribbean Society, Asian Society, Islamic Society, Hindu Society etc), with events throughout the year that celebrate different backgrounds and traditions.

Exeter Students’ Guild and the medical school both put a lot of emphasis on inclusion and student wellbeing, and there’s been increasing work in recent years to make sure students from all backgrounds feel supported. While the city itself isn’t as diverse as bigger places, on campus you’ll definitely find communities and networks where people feel at home.

I actually think more diversity would make Exeter an even richer and more vibrant place, both culturally and socially, and the students who come here play a big role in shaping that change. So while I can’t claim to fully understand your perspective, I do feel Exeter is moving in the right direction, and people like you considering it are part of what will make it better.

Hi guys,I got 2230 on my ucat today.
790 VR
750 DM
690 QR
Band 1
My GCSEs are 988888877
I am however resitting 2 subjects for a-levels since initially got ABC and my predictions will be A* A* since I got an A originally.I’ve found about 5-6 unis who accept resits and don’t look at me unfavourably for it.Do you think 2230 is good enough for unis like Newcastle (Partners),Lancashire,EdgeHill,Southampton,Lincoln?
Also I’m trying to pick a most realistic uni to apply for from Lancashire(even though it’s mostly international and I’m a home student),Exeter,Brunel and edge Hill
I think I should definitely apply to Sheffield Southampton and Newcastle but not what else
