Nervous for the first week of university? Tips for incoming first year students

Hi,

As uni is starting for many of you, I know that it can be a nerve-wracking time for some, so here are some tips to help ease your transition into your first week of uni!

1) Attend fresher's fair: this is a great way to meet new people and find out more about the services that the uni provides (and bag some freebies)

2) Attend your welcome talks: this is another way to meet new people from your course and potentially make new friends. This also allows you to learn how your course will be structured and meet your future lecturers

3) Familiarise yourself with your uni area: City Uni is in a great location, so it's a good idea to familiarise yourself with the location and look for any nice food spots where you can grab a quick drink and bite to eat in between lectures

4) Don't be afraid to talk to your lecturers: your lecturers/tutors are there to support you, so don't be scared to reach out for support because they were also once in your position. You can email them or talk to them after lectures to ask for support or ask any questions

5) Familiarise yourself with the support services that the uni provides: City Uni has a great support system of mental health services, career services, funding support and so much more. Being familiar with these services allows you to feel less nervous when reaching out for support.

I hope this has helped and remember to have fun! These 3 years will fly by and as someone who recently graduated, I hope you have the best time and find a good balance between studying and having fun.

Best wishes,
Ishrat (CUoL Rep)
