Part time mature student fdsc

Hi, im hoping someone can help with clarification.

I’ve just started a part-time Foundation Degree. My tuition fee loan is in place, but no maintenance loan. When I called Student Finance I was advised FdSc courses don’t qualify for maintenance loans, however all the other students on my course have maintenance loans. The only difference is they are all full time.

Is it because I'm part time or has there been an error?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi there,

Can you confirm if you are distance learning? You mentioned that you are a mature student, can you confirm your age please?

Thanks, Clare

Hi Clare,

Thanks for the swift response. I'm attending a physical university over 2 days + required volunteer placements. I'm 36.

Thanks again.

Hi Kat257,

Thank you for confirming. Can you confirm the intensity in which you are studying? How many credits per year?

Thanks, Clare

Hi again

Im studying 90 credits (75%). It is flexible so I can change this to 50% if needed too.

Thanks again!

Thanks, based on what you've said this is because you're studying part-time. When you study a foundation degree part-time you're not entitled to a Maintenance Loan, unfortunately.

Thanks, Graeme

Thanks Graeme,

I appreciate the clarification. Is there anything you're aware of or can signpost me to with regards to any available help for travel costs in my situation?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Kat,

We can only comment on our own finance. I would suggest speaking to the university to see if they know of alternative funding options.

Thanks,
Claire
