Issue with accomadation

I’ve just moved into my accommodation and I love it. Lots of pros but some cons. I’ve reported some maintenance issues to them apart from one. My toilet is so anaesthetically pleasing there’s like permanent brown stains (the ones you’d expect to see in a public toilet) and some black scratch marks that looks like someone drew in it with a pen. I haven’t reported it cause I don’t know how they could possibly fix this. Do you think I should still report it and in the meantime does anyone have any suggestions to keep the toilet looking foamy to minimise me having to see that like every day.

Definitely report it. Otherwise you might get the blame at the end of the year and charged for it.

Hi @Kinderbueno505

I hope you are well! Yes, that doesn't sound pleasant how you have described your toilet being. It sounds as if it has a lot of general wear to it and it hasn't been cleaned properly by the previous people that had the same room! My best advice would be to go to the reception of your uni accommodation (if there is one) and just raise the issue with them. Alternatively, an email or a phone call would work just as well and hopefully they will be able to come and do something about it!

As mentioned in an above post, reporting it sooner rather than later is a good idea as you do not want the blame when it comes to moving out and risking a fine or losing your deposit. If you speak to them soon then I am sure there will be no issues and they will discuss with you what the best option going forwards would be!

I hope you manage to sort it out, let me know if you have any other questions, I am more than happy to help!

Thanks, Matt 🙂

Hey @Kinderbueno505, thank you for your post. And I totally hear you, moving into a new accommodation is exciting but things like this can take the shine off. Honestly, as someone who also lives in student accommodation, I would definitely say you should report it. And here is why:

It is part of their job: Even if you feel like there is nothing they can do, it is still a maintenance issue. Sometimes, they can replace the toilet seat or bowl if it is stained beyond cleaning.

It protects you: Reporting this issue puts it on record that you did not cause the marks and that is really important because it does not put you at risk for being charged for damage you did not cause.

And trust me, this happens more than you think therefore not making it awkward at all! Remember, you want to have the best living experience and reporting things like this really helps.

As for making it look and feel cleaner:

You could try using coloured toilet cleaner that leave a visible layer after flushing. This is not a permanent solution but it does hide stains and keeps it smelling nice

Toilet foam sprays that create a thick foam layer on the surface

Toilet bombs/tablets help keep the bowl foamy and disguise stains between deep cleans

A toilet brush and bleach are always handy. Give it a quick swirl every few days so stains do not build further

But above all, definitely escalate the situation until resolved and I hope in the meantime these little tricks help! I hope it all works out for you, feel free to ask any more questions you may have.
