Durham undergrad tuition fees - pay terms instalments?

I am not taking out a student loan for my first year, as I am receiving a small inheritance that will cover this amount

Does anyone know if I can pay the fees in three instalments - which would really help cash flow? My dad will lend me the money for the first term as I won’t get the inheritance for another couple of months. Also can he pay the tuition fees bill on a credit card?

I do know it sounds privileged btw; it’s just a one-off situation which I’d rather not be in given that it involved the death of a grandparent!

Last year there was an option to pay in 3 installments - December, February and June. They preferred direct debit but credit card was also ok.

Thank you - that is very helpful to know!

“Instalments” appeared as an option on the enrolment thing just now so hopefully that is what the payment dates would be

I'm not crticising but might it be better to save the inheritance for a deposit on a home later? Student loans aren't like a normal debt.

I’m really sorry to hear about your loss, and it makes sense that you’d rather not be dealing with this on top of everything else. Most UK universities usually allow tuition fees to be paid in instalments if you’re self-funding, typically three payments across the academic year (one per term). It’s definitely worth double-checking with Durham’s student finance or accounts office, but it’s a very standard arrangement.

Thanks for that; yes I will contact the finance office as it does crop up on other universities’ websites so hopefully Durham will be able to do it!
