Personal statement

So I want to apply for medicine, but I done really bad in the UCAT which is really disappointing as I really wanted to do medicine (I got 1580 B2). Can I apply for medicine in 2 of my uni choices, and then for the other 3 a different course, I was thinking about biomedical engineering. And if I do this do I write my personal statement for medicine or biomedical engineering? Or do I write 2 separate personal statements?

I beleive you can only write one personal statement for all your uni options

you can only submit one personal statement through ucas, however you can email the department at the university and ask if you can submit a separate one

Hi there,

You only get to submit one personal statement through UCAS, so you can’t write separate ones for medicine and biomedical engineering. If you’re applying to medicine at any universities, your personal statement needs to be medicine-focused, because admissions tutors will expect to see your motivation for becoming a doctor and your relevant experiences.

If you include biomedical engineering in your other choices, those universities will understand that students often apply to different courses alongside medicine. You can make your statement a little broader by highlighting skills and interests that overlap, such as problem solving, teamwork, or an interest in science and technology, but it should still primarily show your commitment to medicine.

Some students also use their UCAS choices strategically by applying for medicine and then using their fifth choice for a related course as a backup, which sounds similar to what you’re considering.

Best,
