My points for nottingham is 51/82? Is that a competitive score… would it be safe to apply there.

Hi. Mine is 61/82 and I honestly don’t think either are going to be enough sadly. It would be great if anyone on here could confirm though.

Hello @Vista123

I wouldn't be discouraged at all, and I very much recommend you take a look (in the link below) at how we are making our calculations this year. We get a lot of enquiries and chat about how certain scores are 'guaranteed' to be one thing or another, but for us it's not the case, and we make no assumptions at all.

Why?

Because there is no fixed threshold score to be selected for interview

Interview thresholds change each year based on number of factors including applicant numbers and overall performance, so we can't predict what the threshold will be for this year. Have a look at this, and check your maths, and see how you feel. Drop us a line or give us a call - we're happy to chat you though it.

Breaking Myths Around Nottingham’s Entry Requirements

Hey future medics! 👩*⚕️👨*⚕️

We’ve noticed some misinformation floating around about Nottingham Medicine admissions specifically that you must get a Band 1 in the SJT section of the UCAT to have a chance of an interview. This isn’t true. Admissions has confirmed that students with SJT Bands 1, 2, and 3 were offered interviews and places for 2025 entry.

The full selection process, including UCAT scoring, is explained on our website, on Open Day posters, and in Medicine talks at Open Days.

It’s really important to check official sources rather than relying on hearsay especially as UCAT preliminary results have just been published: UCAT results and stats.

We want you to focus on what you can control your application, personal statement, and preparation for interviews without worrying about myths that aren’t true.

Thank you so much for that information, it is very much appreciated. Though my score 53/82, I feel this will be too low. I participated on the 16 -18 Ambition Programme, any advice would be really appreciated as my brain is telling to apply for another Medical school, but I would love the opportunity to study at Nottingham. Thanks

Hi! Thresholds change each year based on number of factors including applicant numbers and overall performance, so we can't predict what the threshold will be for coming years, nor would previous years scores be a reliable indication if your score would be accepted.

Our Medicine courses didn't go in to clearing this year, but this isn't to say they wont go in, in years to come.

Hello @deriya

As we're not a University that sets out a definitive threshold score before the applications process closes (favouring instead that all applicants go into the UCAT test purely aiming to do as well as they can do (they will all know their GCSEs score already, evidently you have worked this out using our website)) it's not possible to say whether or not 63/82 will get you to the interview stage. None of us knows, yet, how hard or how easy applicants found the UCAT exam, which makes up 50 out of the 82 marks in the Nottingham calculation. Anyone who says they know is really only applying guesswork and not hard facts. We don't want to set unnecessary and unreachable hurdles for people to jump. The process is stressful enough without that.

That overall UCAT landscape, when known, will have a marked effect on where the final lines get drawn, and on what collective score gets an applicant an interview. 63 is a score, speaking purely anecdotally, not dissimilar to a lot of others we have heard about, or helped applicants to work out. You might also want to bear in mind that over the last few years we have generally interviewed at least half of the applicants whom meet the baseline entry criteria (6 x Grade 7 GCSEs + a UCAT where you avoided a Band 4 in the SJT). We have also made offers to and subsequently taken on applicants who have scored in Band 3 in the SJT. There are a lot of factors that go into making up a score - success in some parts can often even out what might look like under-performance in others.

I know it's an uneasy time. Everyone wants certainty that their score will get them through to the next stage, but we take an approach that maximises opportunities for as many would-be Medicine students for as long as possible. If you meet the criteria (and evidently you do) and want to come to Nottingham, then you should apply to come here, in just the same way that you should apply for other Medical Schools, with whatever approach they take, that you would feel happy to attend.

Best of luck with your application.

Based on last year’s cut off I would say probably not enough.

Exactly. Just in case anyone is putting the finishing touches to their application right at this moment, it should be borne in mind that the thresholds we reached for 2025 interviews were based on a radically different mathematics to what we're doing right now for 2026. Comparing your score this year to other scores you might know about from last year would be an exercise in comparing apples and oranges - not the same thing in the slightest. The comparison would be no help to you at all.

Thanks for this Chris but there was just not enough surety for us. We needed to be able to estimate the likelihood of meeting any points threshold for an interview and we only had previous year’s cut offs as frames of reference. Sadly we did not feel able to apply to Nottingham therefore. Just too risky with our stats. :frown:
