College application

Basically I'm trying to apply for biology, chemistry and psychology at college but my maths teacher refused to put me in top set at the start of year 10 so now I can only get grade 5 whilst getting almost full marks in every test. Will the college let me do those subjects even if I only got a grade 5 in maths? All my other subjects are 7-9 but I know that my A level choices use a lot of maths.

do you have absolutely no choice as to whether you're in top set or not? maybe you should make a complaint? or is it already too late for that?

Check the college entry requirements for the ones you want to apply to and see if they accept a 5 but most importantly speak to either your teacher or head of maths to move you set and do higher so that you can get more than a 5.

I say keep pushing, espically becuase it's not too late to move sets until they've registered you for the exam which most schools don't do until March time.

It should be easier to pass top set. Getting a 4 when the highest grade possible is a 9 should be easier than getting a 4 when the highest possible grade is a 5. I was hoping just for a pass and I got a 6 (still the lowest grade for set one but idc). Keep pushing for it. Ask parents to email on your behalf or arrange a meeting. Even suggest doing a paper under supervised conditions. If you get a decent grade then they have to let you move up. And it’s not too late unless they’ve submitted all the details and confirmation for exams, which they shouldn’t have in September.
