What are my odds of being accepted to UCL for HPE or Pol&Econ at LSE

my A-level summer mock results were A*A*A- A*AA therefore im assuming i should be predicted all A*. Subjects: Maths, Economics, Geography
My GCSEs ( biggest letdown) are 888777765
And my personal statement is good from the feedback I've got. Got mentoring from an LSE grad.
I suspect HPE you have a good chance although bear in mind that they state they prefer applicants to have 3 from history/politics/economics/maths and you only have 2/3 from those. However I think historically it's been somewhat under-subscribed. Bear in mind HPE is based in the SSEES and not history nor economics nor politics & IR at UCL and so the course very strongly focuses on the history, politics, and economics of Eastern Europe and former Soviet regions. Notably also the economics modules are taught within SSEES not economics.

For the LSE course you probably have a reasonable chance, it might be a bit more of a long shot but it's reasonable to have a couple of aspirational choices anyway.

Yeah im aware for HPE. Much of my personal statement is based around eastern europe and I'm eastern european myself so I reckon I have a fairly decent chance

That sounds like a good fit then for your interests  Some students are caught off guard by it so it's always worth making sure people are aware :smile:SSEES is a very good department from what I've heard though (a couple people in my modules in first year were on joint courses in SSEES) and I've heard good things about the lecturers on the whole there!

Otherwise on paper I think you have as good a chance as possible barring taking a third subject from their list. But as noted often historical courses are undersubscribed these days and it sounds like you have a very focused PS on relevant subject matter, as well as good predicted grades and GCSEs and are taking 2/3 of their "preferred" subjects for that specific course (and they don't mandate any specific subjects) so I imagine you'll be fine for that :h:

LSE is always a bit of a gamble as they put more emphasis on GCSEs but also a lot of emphasis on the PS which can be hard to quantify objectively. But I don't see anything that suggests you would be non-competitive so seems reasonable to apply!
