That depends very much on what you're looking for in a Psychology course, or a university generally. Have you compared the courses? Obviously, there'll be a lot of similarity (due to the BPS accreditation) but they also all have difference when in comes to optional modules. Are they any modules which particularly appeal?

What about the university itself? Would you prefer to be in a campus-base uni (e.g. Bath) or one embedded within a large city (e.g. Kings or LSE)? Have you managed to attend the open days at any of them? If so, what did you think?

Hello @Elina2211,

That’s good to hear that you are planning to study psychology! I currently study it at the University of Southampton and have found it so interesting.

Here are some questions to consider when choosing a university:

How far from home would you be comfortable travelling?

What are the modules like for each uni?

What are the teaching and assessment methods for each uni?

What are the rankings for each uni?

What is the career support like?

Which city do you prefer?

Which open day did you prefer?

This can look like a lot to consider, but I found that going to open days really helped me with my decision, so this may be a good option for you.

Hope this helped and let me know if you have any more questions!

Hiya there,

Lovely to hear you're thinking of Bath as one of your choices.

I can't personally speak for King's or LSE besides saying that both are very good unis all-round. However, they are located in London which as a big city I personally find too overwhelming. What I quite like about Bath is that we're a comparatively smaller city which still has a lot to do but with a slower pace of life than London. The uni too is smaller than Kings and LSE and has the feel of a small community village due to everything being close together.

I actually studied Psychology here - and personally I really enjoyed how varied the course was. The units we took were so diverse and included so many disciplines (cognitive neuropsychology, affective neuroscience, organisational psychology, social psychology, developmental, biological, educational (my personal fave), psychology of autism, quant and qual research methods, and included so many opportunities to do your own projects both alone and in groups.

I also really loved the fact that Bath has a version of the course that has a placement year where you can go off to a company or research team for a year. This not only adds its weight in gold to your grad CV but is also a lot of fun and the chance to do something different and try out a potential psychology career.

Definitely choose the course you think you'll enjoy the most, consider which kind of city you'd be happiest in, and which uni you feel most at home at if you get the chance to visit. Its so important that you put your own preferences first, regardless of prestige.

I hope this helps!
