Will I be able to get maintenance loan again?

Hey guys I’ve been studying last year and due to family issues I’ve had to withdraw from the Uni and found out I have been overpaid. I’ve already set up repayment plan since November last year which is working for me and doesn’t affect my income.

The thing is that I just applied for a new course in a different university starting now in September.

Will be be able to still receiving maintenance loan if I have this repayment plan for the last year in place? If so how would that work? I have seen that SFE usually deduct the amount from your next payment but I’m concerned that by doing so I won’t be able to continue my studies struggling financially.

Would be possible to keep paying this amount that i have been overpaid on the side and receive my full maintenance loan at the same time?

Thank you

Hi Jose,

its normal if you go back into study and you have an overpayment, that it will come off future finance. If you believe this will put you in financial difficulty with the overpayment coming off, you can apply for financial hardship to see if its possible to defer the overpayment till the end of the year.

You would need to contact us once the overpayment has been deducted from your finance, so we can send the form for financial hardship. You would need to complete this form and send it back with your last 3 months bank statements for all accounts in your name. This isn't guaranteed, the team will review this on a case by case basis and advise if they have deferred part or all of the overpayment.

You can upload the form and evidence once completed online in your account under the evidence upload option. This link shows you how here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_JvzAlga4s

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Claire thank you for your getting back to me.

Okay I understand that. In case of any deduction that would be from the total amount that I’m due to receive right? For instance if I’m supposed to receive £9.000 for that year but I have £3.000 as overpayment from last yeah basically means I’d be able to receive £5.000 for that year right? Then dividing this in three instalments would be around £1.666 right? I’m just putting this number as it’s easier for me to understand.

Thank you

Hi José richieri,

If you have an overpayment of 3000, and your entitlement is 9000, it would be 6000 in total for the year which is then split into 3 payments.

Thanks, Clare
