Hey there,

This depends completely on the course that you are doing and your financial capacity. Regarding humanity type degrees or degrees that will require a lot of essay writing, macbooks are popular but by no means a necessity. Any laptop will do as long as it will last you throughout your entire degree.

Degrees that including coding may require heavier hardware and more storage, it would be worth speaking to your university team for information about their requirements.

I hope this helps!

Some universities may subsidise some of the cost for laptops, or you may be eligible for a bursary. It is worth asking the scholarship team; contact information should be easily found on your university's website.

£170 HP 830 G8
Also look out for deals for fully working, non-dented HP 835 G8's for a similar price.

If the laptop battery life is insufficient for your needs, check if the battery is getting tired and replace it, at a cost of about £25 and a few minutes work. And if it's still not good enough, get a power bank, such as this one: £90 Anker power bank

For a laptop with a bigger screen, but a bit less portable, go for an HP 840 G8 or 845 G8.

Spending more than £200 for a laptop for your needs would be a waste of money.
