Dentistry 2026, UCAT 2220

Hi

A little help on Uni choices please ?

stats
UCAT 2220 B1
999999888, A in maths AS
predicted A*A*A*

extra's
school leadership and mentoring
x2 weeks dental WEX - NHS community and high st
weekly care home and some charity work
article published on dental in junior journal

thinking B'ham, Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool, Plymouth

I know UCAT not high enough for Bristol. Cardiff has their welsh-applicant focus. Not interested in London.

Bit worried with the signs that the UCAT deciles are going to be high, the Uni cu-offs will rise a lot and even B'ham could be a reach ??

Dw about the prelims they are always minimum 70 points higher than final. Your score will definitely be 9th decile and I highly recommend putting down Brum. Have you thought about Manchester instead of Liverpool? Higher post interview success rate

If you did want to apply to Cardiff, you would get interviewed.

All of your choices look fine to me

Hi there! 👋

Glad to hear you're considering Plymouth! If you have any specific questions about Plymouth as a university/city feel free to reach out and I'd be happy to help! You can reach out to [email protected] if you have any application-related queries in the meantime too.

I'd also recommend visiting for an open day (we have lots coming up including in October!) where you can see facilities, speak to staff and students, and view the university campus/city themselves. You can find out the current upcoming dates here! 😄

Best of luck with your application!

Taking on board what youre saying, Ive looked a little further and probably/possibly I would clear the UCAT/academic hurdle for Cardiff even as an RUK, after that, interview odds go up.

Final list now could be Manchester, Sheffield, Cardiff and QMUL (dropped Plymouth over their capacity issue, dropped Leeds as interview:redface:ffer ratio poor, dropped Liverpool as my higher UCAT means perhaps should go with schools using UCAT more)

Sounds great but suggest swapping Cardiff to bham. Only because Cardiff is a priority for low ucay applicants which you definitely aren't so it is more competitive than usual and they do prioritise Welsh applicants

Hi
KCL, apart from being ranked top 4 in the world, they have the biggest cohort of 150. You will get an interview with your UCAT and GCSE.

priority for low ucat applicants? pardon. Just because people with low ucats apply, doesnt mean if you have a high one you cant.

Cardiff is extremely gcse heavy which is why people with any ucat apply to it.

Really appreciate the advice , you’ve hit the nub of it and a thought Ive been having. Also reportedly the interview to offer ratio at Bham is higher than Cardiff. It really is a decision between a gamble in Bham cut off and Cardiff RUK vs Welsh prioritising

The “lower ucat schools reject high ucat scorers” is an internet belief I’ve encountered so interesting to hear your contrasting thoughts.

I wish the whole process was so much less “smoke and mirrors” , it’s ridiculous really. I mean people are trying to sign up to £75- 100k of debt minimum - why do they not get given open factual info from the unis ? The whole “4 choices” is a farce, I mean I am literally paying 6 figures , why can’t I apply to all 14 ??

Rant over , 😂. Thank you tho, for your help much appreciated

Think you can apply anywhere you like, apart from Bristol, with those stats. You have exactly same UCAT score as me except way better GCSE results! Reason people with high UCAT might think twice about applying to lower UCAT threshold Unis is, if like me GCSE results not so good, youve got to wonder and factor in what they do then prioritise instead of the UCAT and if that is weakness for you or not. Got to look at the data and apply strategically. But as I say I think you could apply wherever you want. Ive been limited by predicted grades AAA ( no A* means no London Unis) and 6 English language 7 Bio, despite a high (ish) UCAT score. Good luck wherever you end up applying to.
