Flexible Degree Programmes (Scotland)

Hello,

I'm looking into universities at the moment, and I really like the idea of the flexible degree programme structure offered in Scottish unis. I understand that you apply for one subject, then if you are accepted you choose two other subjects to do along side it for the first two years, although all of the subjects usually have to be from the same school of subjects. Obviously, timetabling and availability of spaces on certain courses is a problem, so most of the uni websites say something along the lines of 'dependent on availability/interest.'

My question is: how common is it for you to not be able to do the three subjects that you want because there isn't enough space on a course?

I know that it's fairly common for a module to not go through because of lack of interest, but this feels like a much higher stake. I'm very nervous at the thought of firming somewhere, only to show up in September to be told that I can't do the third subject that I wanted to, when the whole point of going there was to do those three subjects.

For reference, I'm interested in English, History, and Film/Media Studies.

Thank you!

I can't help with your question about Scottish Unis, but there are also lots of degree programs like this at English Unis that allow you to choose several different Humanities and/or Social Science subjects - examples
Undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts | The University of Warwick
Combined degrees | Undergraduate | University of Liverpool
Combined Honours BA | Undergraduate | Newcastle University
BA (Hons) in Communication, Media and Culture and English Literature (joint honours) at Oxford Brookes University
etc etc

I recommend emailing the universities that you're interested in as they'll be able to give you uni and course specific information.
