Dropping an a-level

Hii, I am in year 12 and I think that I am going to drop an a-level since I am currently doing 4 plus an EPQ. At first I did not want to drop anything but I think it would be for the best. My subjects are Geography, French, Psychology and English lit. I would either drop English or Psychology but I am leaning more towards dropping English at the moment since although I really like English, I am finding it a bit boring at the moment and I'm finding Psychology really interesting. However would dropping English mean my CV looks bad? I'm not sure what degree I want to do in the future but possibly something related to geography. Any advice would really help

I'm in Y13 and taking psychology so ask any questions you want. About your question, I think it depends on what you're thinking about doing at uni, and if you don't know it's probably worth looking at some sectors, and courses to rule out what you DON'T want to do first to make sure you don't accidentally rule out a good course when you drop one.

Thank you!! Do you think that psychology is a useful subject for the future considering what you have learnt in year 12?

Id drop the one you like the least/are doing the worst in.
If you are finding english boring, then it might be worth dropping that. Is that also the one you are doing least well in?

I mean it is only the beginning so it is difficult to tell whether I am doing worse in any subject but yeah so far I am enjoying English the least.
Hi there!

Unis will only tend to ask for 3 A-Levels and so if you wanted to drop one this will not affect your application. Dropping one subject (advisably the one you enjoy the least) will also give you more time to focus more deeply on your other three and EPQ. Its important to protect yourself from burning out 🙂 and also please note that Psychology will also give you the experience of analysis/comparison/critique and essay writing that you'd get from English.

If you wanted to study something like Geography, then many Geography-based courses do not ask for A-Level English, only Geography and/or a Science, and a good GCSE grade for English and Maths. Its important when you're browsing potential uni courses or course areas you may be interested in, to look carefully at the entry requirements. Bath don't offer Geography so I can't really advise on exactly what the course will be like, but this is exactly what Open Days are for!

I hope this adds, best of luck with everything!

If you mean future as in for university, then not really as I'm applying for biology. It's also not counted as a science by Oxford and a fair amount of other unis so it most likely won't help with going into sciences. But, if you're talking generally, then definitely, its helped me think more about behaviour and try to understand the reasons people act in certain ways and it actually has helped rationalise some things. If nothing else, it's *really* interesting, even more so in y13 and, if you're finding the concepts come quite naturally to, then that normally continues throughout the course and it'll mean you do better.
