Changing course

I have just started my third year in french and spanish and I’ve come to realise this isn’t what I want to do anymore but I don’t know what to do from here. I would like to change course to history with another subject but i don’t know how to go about doing this. I done history in first year and I don’t know if this would affect the change of course. But I’m also wondering would i be better withdrawing and reapplying for 2026/27.

Are you doing these subjects at College level or University? My best advice would be to communicate your feelings early on, so try speaking to a careers advisor if you have one at your college/university or speaking to a teacher on your course. Would definitely recommend the careers advisor more though as some teachers will encourage you to stick it out as they want you to stay on the course; and this will just confuse you more. I'm currently in the same position as well, considering to drop out of my second year of my course to do a levels. I had these feelings last year and I honestly wished I'd researched into my options further so definitely make sure you do this with your careers advisor to see how your potential new subjects could affect the change of course.

Hi there! (:

I would contact your personal development advisor or head of year for your current course, they will be able to best advise on how a transfer would work, any credits which could be transferred over - likely if you've already completed a 1st year in history and have your required moldules & credits you'd be able to transfer to the seccond year 😊 - but best contacting the uni and seeing the options they have avaible!

one of my friends was unsure of her course and she was able to go on a year of voluentary suspension, she ended up not attending the year, but still having the option to start again on a different degree pathway the next again year with less credits needing to be taken as she'd completed some of the mandatory modules of year 1 the year before - this type of thing might be an option for you (:

hope this helps, best of luck with your studies!!

Hiya, no problemo! (:

I would contact your personal development advisor and they will be able to let you know how this would work and whether you would be able to do it this semester - unsure of the exact process but they should know or be able to refer you to the right people to helpout!
