Paramedic Science BSc B781 and AHP exception list

Hey,

Just thought I'd share this as I was looking for an answer to this for days,

Having spoken to the SFE rep on the phone earlier, I asked her to check whether the specific course I have an offer for is on the list of AHP exception courses

Name of course: Paramedic Science BSc
Course code: B781
Provider: City St George's, University of London

So I've found that it is "fully funded for 2025/26"
I cannot yet confirm, and I don't even know if this is useful for anyone this late, but there you go; maybe it will help someone in the same boat as I was!

I've moving your thread to the Ask SFE forum so that an official SFE/SLC rep can check this as it is my understanding that paramedic science isn't funded as a second degree.

Hi there,

Paramedic Science courses are only classed as an exception if the student is entitled to funding from the Ambulance Service Trust. If they are not eligible for support from the Ambulance Service Trust they can apply to us for full support, but this will be subject to ELQ rules.

Previous Study

If the student is in receipt of a means tested bursary then the student would be classed as being on an exception course.
If the student is not in receipt of a means tested bursary then the standard ELQ and previous study rules apply.

Thanks,
Claire

Thank you for your response,

In case this does fall through, and despite the specific course being on the list, it doesn't work

Can I still claim that one leftover year I think I have; I studied 2016-2019, left with a certificate of higher education but the original course was a BSc

That's not possible, unfortunately, we don't take unused years into account like that.

Just to confirm, do you currently have a degree or honours-degree at the moment?

Thanks, Graeme

I do not have a degree, no; I left with a cert HE

Does it change the situation if I do not have a degree?

Hi there, no, the eligibility would depend on the course itself, such as if it is an exemption course or not.

Ok thanks

Just for my own peace of mind, I am hoping for clarification as I have now enrolled and there is a limited amount of time before I have to commit to paying the fees for this year.

When I spoke to one of your colleagues he made it clear I am definitely able to receive the maintenance loan (which is all I'm hoping for, I'm not looking for a tuition fee loan) as I have studied previously but it led only to a cert HE.
He also asked me to upload evidence incl. a cover letter explaining that I only achieved a certificate of higher education, which I did.

Best wishes,
Daya

Hi Daya,

Based on this then yes, you should be eligible for the maintenance loan. Thanks, Jason
