I wouldn't necessarily disagree but is there anything to support that in terms of data or study?

No, just general consensus. But Durham has a higher intake of private school students by percentage, even if the numbers of privately educated students studying at both universities are about the same. Also, looking at the student destinations of students from the elite private schools, there is usually about 8-12 students that choose Durham each year per school.
