How will my status be treated-Home or International?

I have living in UK for 3 years plus and got 7 9s and 4 8s in GCSE.UCAT score of 2160/2700 and Band 1 SJT and also 3A*s predicted for chem, bio and maths.I am on a dependant to skilled worker visa and will be completing only 4 years when the 2026 academic year starts and 5 years when 2027 year starts. How will universities normally consider me?Home/International?Is it safe to take a gap year and wait for ILR so that i can be considered in 2027?
I’d recommend reading the guidance published by UKCISA, as it’s what unis will use to assess your fee status

depends on where you will apply in the UK. everywhere except scotland is likely to consider you as a international student as you do meet the requirement of having an ILR. scotland might consider you as a rest of UK (RUK) student, which is the same as a home fee at england ishh?
Even if you were to email the uni before u sent off ucas, they are likely to say " can't give a offical anwer without a fee assessment and to do that you need to make a ucas application ".
I am also under child dependant visa and I did know my chances was were really slim to be a home student in england and was hesistant to sent off ucas....
but like the previous replier said, look at https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/student-advice/find-your-fee-status/
and read the requirement for each fee status.
You can use this website to get a rough idea of what ur fee status is likely to be: https://ukstudyoptions.com/fee-status-checker/
but yah the final student fee does dependant according to the uni ngl, especially with the UK migiration rules likely to change

If your parent gets their ILR before your course starts you will be considered a home student. You have to mail the universities about your situation if they assess you as international - you can see your fee status in your offer letter from the uni or nail them to get confirmation if they give you an interview/offer.

🙂 hi again but what can we do if we only gonna get ilr later and if parents get it before like 2 years later , is the best option -> considering uni after 2 gap year ? Really 🥲

let's be real, there is no best option for us....we have to sacrifice one or the other.... you can do 2 years gap or even one year depending on when ur parents get ILR...bcz if u have a pre-settled status, I believe it is like after 4 years and somehting months, not full sure but yah...you will be a home student then.
with the rules likely to change, the 2 years gap is a gamble ngl...and I am taking it kinda igg...for me, I applied to all scottish uni for BSc biomedical science....but for 2027 intake so that I can work and save up for an year...bcz my parents can slightly support me with the RUK ( Rest of UK ) which is the same as the home student in england. but then I have to deal with food and accomadation.... based on my talks with my teacher, if the rules don't change and I get the ILR in end of 2027, then I can apply for a student loan for my remaining years from 2028 sept.

Whereas my friend who is 2years older than me is now working in a care home for the last few months, and igg her lan it to see if see can move to NHS as a band 2 and then progess to higher bands iggg....

for me, I am getting my dream uni course, but is sacrificing my dream uni, taking on huge financial responsibility, potentially getting home sick as I am in sussex...so yahh the blood north and south of the UK,,, FUNNNN : (

where as for my friend, she is scarifing her plan to do physio, and was aiming for doing nursing...but bcz the international student fee is no joke, she started to work, and hopefully she can find another way to get into nursing career pathway or something....

Litch same position- i m hoping to get ILR in 2027 summer but still applied this year for deferred entry and got all rejections and the reason probably being not competitive enough to be an international students but ppl with home fee status with lower than my UCAT already got offers

Sry for the late reply, if your parent gets ILR before the course, then you will be considered the family member of a settled person which would give you a home fee status . I saw the UKCISA website guidance.
I'm not exactly sure but I think if both the parents have already got ILR or are applying to get ILR then the children can also apply with them, I think it's better to consult a solicitor in this case

hey i’m in a similar situation! i’m american but my family moved to london in aug 2021 so im aug 2026 ill have been in the uk for 5 years. me and my mom are under my dad’s skilled worker visa. i think 25 days before your 5 year anniversary of living in the uk you can apply for ilr, so because you’ll have lived here for 4 years you won’t be eligible to apply for ilr/home fees. i’m also applying for 2026 entry to vet med so the process is a bit complicated because im applying to unis as an international student but my fee status will update before the academic year starts, so i should be eligible for home fees for all the years of my degree.

a similar thing should apply to you as i believe there is a new rule where each academic year the unis will reassess your fee status. what this means is that you may need to pay intl fees your first year, but for the subsequent years of your degree you will be eligible to pay for home fees as you would be eligible to apply for ilr before your second year starts.

congrats on your grades btw they’re amazing!!
