What uni course?

Hello, I am year 13 student doing a-level Economics, Geography and Biology. I am interested in economics and business and finance area but obviously without alevel Maths I am limited. What courses do you guys suggest I look at? I don't just mean can possibly get onto but will be able to learn, for example i could get onto a pure economics ba very luckily but I will still struggle even with learning maths. I've been interested in accounting and finance with PWC placement, business economics, industrial economics.

Hi there,

That’s a really good question, and it’s great that you’re already thinking carefully about what suits both your interests and strengths. Since you’re studying Economics, Geography, and Biology, you already have a strong analytical and problem-solving background, even without A-level Maths, and there are still plenty of excellent degree options in the business, economics, and finance area that don’t require advanced mathematics.

At London South Bank University (LSBU), we offer a range of courses that could fit your interests perfectly. You might want to explore the BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance, BSc (Hons) Economics, BA (Hons) Business Management (Economics Pathway), or BSc (Hons) Economics (Finance Pathway). These courses combine business knowledge, real-world finance, and economic principles but with a more practical and applied approach to maths. The focus is on understanding how businesses operate, how financial decisions are made, and how economic trends influence organisations, not on heavy mathematical theory.

In terms of entry requirements, LSBU’s business and finance-related degrees typically require 112–120 UCAS points, which is roughly equivalent to BBC-BBB at A-level (or a recognised Level 3 qualification). The only Maths requirement is a GCSE in Maths at grade 4/C or above, so you won’t need A-level Maths to apply. Your current subjects, Economics, Geography, and Biology, are all excellent preparation and will support your application strongly.

LSBU’s business and finance degrees are also professionally accredited by organisations such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). This means that during your studies, you can work toward professional exemptions and qualifications that will give you a head start in your career.

Another great advantage of LSBU is its central London location, putting you right at the heart of the UK’s business and financial centre. This provides access to major companies, networking events, and internship opportunities that will help you gain valuable experience. You’ll also benefit from strong career support through LSBU’s Employability Service, which helps students secure placements, part-time roles, and graduate jobs.

If you’d like to find out more, I’d highly recommend attending our Open Day on Saturday 15th November, where you can chat with lecturers, explore the campus, and get advice on which course aligns best with your interests and future goals.

👉 You can sign up here: LSBU Open Day.
👉 You can also chat with our students through our Unibuddy platform: Chat with our students.

So, even without A-level Maths, you have plenty of great options. LSBU’s business, finance, and economics pathways will allow you to build valuable skills, explore your interests, and prepare for a successful career in the financial or corporate world.
