Are these Medical Schools realistic for me to apply to? (2025)

I have 9 A* and 3 As at GCSE and a UCAT score of 1970 Band 1 and predicted A*AAA (A* in Welsh bacc). I’ve done volunteering in an elderly mental health ward and have work experience in A&E which I have included in my personal statement. At the moment I’m thinking of applying to:
- Cardiff
- Liverpool
- Kings College London
- Queens Belfast
I know some of these are very competitive, especially considering I have an average 5th decile UCAT score, though would I be right in saying these unis look at more than just the UCAT for interviews? I don’t want to apply to a uni if it’s very unrealistic because of my UCAT so looking for some advice,Thank you.

KCL, your ucat is simply too low. They have set their cut off in past years at 2100+ so definitely make sure you don't apply if you aren't above the cut-off.
The rest seem good enough, and remember that you get the same degree from everywhere, so the uni doesn't matter for med.
Oh yeah, by the way, don't trust the preliminary results, they are inflated by 40-50 points every single year so you'll just have to wait and see what you actually get.
Best of luck!

Thank you very much, that’s very helpful advice, do you have any other uni recommendations that will consider my UCAT score as your completely right that the uni I go to doesn’t really matter in the end so I’ll consider anywhere!

If you post this in the "which medical school should I apply to?" megathread they will give you a comprehensive answer.

KCL definitely not recommended unfortunately.

Cardiff - being Welsh domicile and considered as contextual by Cardiff, you should be fine for interview invitation.

Liverpool and QUB will be alright.

Other options, Leicester, Plymouth, UEA.

Also Hull York (Gcse heavy) and Lincoln.

And Keele.

Remember it doesn't matter where you train as a doctor - all Med degrees are accredited by the GMC as equal, they have a set syllabus and all lead to exactly the same qualification. The NHS wont care about 'which Uni' and your future patients won't ask.
